Where Is Christianity Most Practiced in the World?

It’s a question I’m asked often—sometimes out of curiosity, sometimes out of concern for the future of the faith: Where is Christianity most practiced in the world today?

The short answer may surprise you. Christianity is no longer centered in one nation or one continent. It is truly a global faith, vibrant and growing across cultures, languages, and generations.

By raw numbers, the largest Christian populations are found in places like the United States, Brazil, and Mexico. These nations each have tens of millions of people who identify as followers of Jesus. In Latin America especially, Christianity shapes daily life, family rhythms, and public culture in profound ways.

But if we look at momentum—where Christianity is growing fastest—the story shifts. The heart of Christianity’s growth today is in the Global South, particularly in Africa and parts of Asia. Countries like Nigeria and the Philippines are experiencing explosive church growth, deep spiritual hunger, and bold expressions of faith.

What does this mean for us? It reminds us that Christianity is not shrinking—it’s shifting. God is at work far beyond our local context. And here in Denver, at Beacon, we are part of that same global story. When we pray, worship, serve, and live on mission, we stand shoulder to shoulder with believers across the world.

Christianity is most practiced wherever Jesus is being faithfully followed—and today, that is happening everywhere.
